What Beginners and Improvers Pilates Mat Classes

With Bea Will Do For You

Pilates was developed by Joe Pilates over 100 years ago; it focuses on integrating all muscle groups with controlled movements, improving your brain and body connectivity, proprioception, muscle power, core strength and joint flexibility. Pilates has lasted this long as it reallly does work and can be adapted to everyone’s needs.

Despite the new tiktok and insta trends, all of the fundementals of Pilates were there at the beginning and Joe Pilates wanted us to integrate new advances in medical knowledge about the body in to the technique. He said one of the keystones to the body is your ‘power house’ which now we call core stability and strength.

Bea Alexander has been teaching Pilates full time for twenty two years; she is experienced in making sure everyone in the class is working in the best way for their body and any injuries or conditions they may have.  This is non-gimmick-y teaching, giving you back a sense of control over your own body and mind.

You can read more about how our classes work and the full terms and conditions on this link. Please do check out our Tcs and Cs before booking.

How to Book Beginners & Improvers Pilates

We use MINDBODY scheduling software.  You will need to set up an account with us through it.  See information below.

We recommend you do the full twelve-week term. We operate a rescheduling facility: if you know you will not be able to attend a class, you can go in to your MINDBODY scheduling site and click on ‘my schedule’, and in the list of the classes you are booked in for, click ‘cancel’ next to the class, and as long as it is 24 hours before your class, you can then use that money to book in to another class any time during the twelve weeks of the term.  You can swap between in-person and online in this way too.

You can buy a pass for eight classes, from the 6th of January 2025, or even book individual classes.

Create a MINDBODY account with us from this link. [ There has never been a data breach on the site. We follow GDPR laws]

Once you are in MINDBODY, choose the ‘Mat Class’ tab and search for the Beginners & Improvers Class, Thursdays, 7.15pm,  in the timetable.

If you have trouble finding the classes these are the direct links:

Beginners & Improvers Live Online

Make sure you choose In-Person if you want to be at the venue, or choose ‘Live Online’ if you want to do class via Zoom link. Click on ‘Sign Up Now’.  You will then be given the ‘Make a Reservation’ page.

Fill in the ‘Recurring Reservation’ information, leaving the ‘start date’ as it is, and change the ‘end date’ to the last date in the drop down list that appears if you hover over it.  This will book your name in to the register for all twelve classes.

Click on ‘Make a recurring reservation’ and ‘Series and Memberships’ will come up – these are the price options.  Until the 6th of January, you can only choose to book for the twelve-week term, £160.  After the 6th of January, you can also buy an eight-class pass or buy individual classes.

Once you have paid for the block, you will receive and immediate auto-email saying you have booked. If you have booked for live online the auto-email will contain the Zoom Link for the class which stays the same throughout the term.

If you do not see it appear in your in-box within a few minutes, check your SPAM, and if you still do not see it, check you have booked yourself  in to the classes and not just paid for the block.

Check what classes you are booked in for in  ‘My Schedule’ in your MINDBODY account. You should see a list of the classes your name is down for and if you are doing the full term, it should be twleve classes.  If not, follow the process again as above but make sure this time, you have put the ‘end date’ as the last date in the drop down list. The last Thursday of term is the 3rd of April.

You are now registered for Beginners and Improvers !

Equipment you need for your Pilates class

  • one exercise mat
  • one medium-strength, long-ish resistance band
  • one small squashy Pilates ball, we recommend 7 inches for most people; 9 inches if you are over six foot.
  • Many people will need exercise blocks for sitting on to help sit upright when in crossed legs or legs out straight in the floor. We recommend getting two if you know you have tight hamstrings.

You can buy these things online at:

Mats come from all sorts of places, including big supermarkets.  A decent one is: https://www.mad-hq.com/shop/yoga/mats-rugs-towels/yoga-mats-beginners/warrior-2-plus-yoga-mat.      If you want a thicker one, they can be less portable to carry, but do give more padding https://www.mad-hq.com/core-fitness-mats-10mm

Resistance Bands: Buy the Blue Medium https://www.mad-hq.com/shop/fitness/resistance-training/resistance-bands/resistance-bands
